“Cause it’s a Long Road to Wisdom…” The Lumineers

rv-trip-1-5

Friday we took a short road trip to Auburn Hills, Michigan for The Lumineers concert. Of course when traveling together, we are inexplicable cursed/blessed to have a GPS with its  own agenda.  Though the address was correct and we followed the directions to the letter, we found ourselves faced with this sign and our passports safely tucked away at home.

After deciding that spending the night detained with a bunch of mountees with “no re-entry to the USA” could have been fun, we were still determined to get to the concert. Re-routing the directions through our cell phones, we continued towards our destination.

Between arriving to Auburn Hills and making our way towards the venue:

We found a hidden Irish pub

K made friends with no less then 5 people at the bar,

Zs. recieved a tumbler full of scotch,

We struggled getting dressed in the bathroom, and

Emerged from the pub (some-what) put together.

We arrived to the venue with VIP tickets in hand. Only a day before the concert we found out that somehow the venue had sold our seats.  After hearing that we would be compensated with VIP (front row) seats, VIP parking, and access to the VIP lounge, we decided not hold a grudge.

The concert itself was near indescribable: amazing, emotional. K was crying, I was screaming, band members were jumping off pianos barefoot, and of course we were dancing.

And when the amps started acting up and cutting out.  Wesley Schultz stood in the middle of the stage, preforming a song dedicated to his father, but all we could hear was his voice.

With the music still running through our minds and bodies we jumped back in the car, drove another hour and a half to where we were spending the night and crashed.  In the morning we got some Tim Hortons and we were off, off home.

Stay weird you lovely humans,
